Quarter Three
July
There is something magical about New York City (NYC) in the summertime. Endless park walks, shopping, rooftop bars, dancing till 4 am, and even a day at the beach. It’s the most wonderful time of the year and I took full advantage of every moment in the month of July. Many firsts were broken on this trip including the Queens Night Market and Rockaway Beach. The outdoor market was a food/beverage emporium with various cuisines, portion sizes and plenty of space to lay out a blanket or bring your lawn chair. I tried Tanghulu for the first time and did not have the best experience with the candied layer in my mouth but I would try it again. Now, let’s talk about this beach day. First, I was shocked that NYC had a beach let alone multiple beaches with Rockaway Beach settled in the borough of Queens. It’s a nice getaway from the busy city and enjoy the sound of the ocean waves but do not expect clear blue water or swimming of any kind. This is not the Caribbean Sea.
I gained a new found love for long length jean shorts aka Bermuda shorts aka jorts. I picked up two cargo pairs from my local Rainbow clothing shop and could not wait to style them all summer long. They are modest, comfortable, and functional. Above are some mood boards for jort inspiration all season long.
August
I made my way to Kings Dominion & Soak City for a glorious solo date full of thrills, laps around the lazy river, and lots of walking! A few rides I would recommend are Delirium, Dominator, Grizzley, Tumbili, and WindSeeker. I highly recommend attending an amusement park or carnival by yourself because you are on your own time which allows your visit to be totally crafted for you. And remember to wear some jorts to avoid that burn from the hot seats.
September
The month of September was unreal! I went on my first cruise and let’s just say I am addicted now. It was a five day vacation with ports to Porta Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico with a great beginner friendly cruise ship, The Grandeur of the Seas. As you know, I learned how to swim earlier in the year so I was thrilled when one of the excursions we attended was jumping into cenotes (I still wore my life jacket because safety first). We explored four cenotes with the shallowest being six feet deep and the deepest being 26 ft deep. It was such an accelerating moment in my life because I grew up with water fears and positioned myself close to the shoreline for years but those jumps solidified my swimming progress and conquering my fears.
A moment of peace for these beautiful views from the boat.
